Ok, I have been raving about Nip/Tuck throughout its entire fourth season and thought an episode that flash forward 20 years would be interesting to see. However, I was a tad bit disappointed. The show began in the future, with a teenage Conor talking to a therapist, whose office resembled a garden maze. Conor revealed that his parents split up when he was only six months old and that one of his hands had still never been reconstructed. Then we flashed back in time to the world of Nip/Tuck that we know and love. The whole episode played off the flash back/flash forward gimmick.
The best parts of the episode was watching the present day stuff that focused on Julia leaving Sean, which occurred during a hurricane (very subtle). Julia originally was going to run off with Marlowe to Italy but then changed her mind. The entire episode had Julia flip-flopping between approving and canceling baby Conor's surgery. I found it incredibly tiresome. The episode ended with Sean driving Julia and Annie to the airport, with the two ladies leaving to visit Julia's mother. I can only hope that means we'll get a little Vanessa Redgrave action. It makes sense that Julia is disappearing, though, since we've heard for a while that Joely Richardson would be absent for a few episodes. I guess there's no chance for a long-term reconciliation, because future Sean and Julia made it quite clear that they were not too fond of each other.
The hilarious parts of the episode revolved around grown-up Annie and old Christian. Sixty-plus Christian looked hilarious wearing a Liberace-esque getup, with a little belly and was chillin' with two ladies. It was clear that Christian hardly changed at all, but we did learn that at one point in his life, he was married. The adult Annie was played by The Brady Bunch Movie's Jennifer Elise Cox, who was hilariously over-the-top. It seems that through it all, Annie ended up being more screwed up than Conor or Matt, which isn't too surprising because she spends a large part of her time being ignored. The surprise had to be freaky Matt who actually grew up and became a top surgeon. He looked a whole lot better in his "aged" look than his regular one. I also found grown-up Conor to be pretty annoying too.
I also liked how the future scenes didn't give to much away. Older Matt never mentioned Kimber, his current wife, or his currently unborn child. Do they stay married? Is the child ever even born? Christian never mentioned who he did marry and we never saw future Liz either. Does Christian marry Michelle or Kimber? My guess is they left all these plot points open because they don't want to give anything away about how the storylines are resolved.
Next week looks great. Michelle and Kimber are back. Christian proposes to Michelle, causing Kimber to try to seduce him and make him realize he is not a one-woman man. Also, Michelle gains full control of the firm, which doesn't make Sean happy at all.
