The Bi Awards: Recap

Hey everyone! The Bi Awards were certainly a huge success this year. There were a few surprise winners this year and others pretty predictable. While the ratings were down compared to last year, I still think this was a far superior ceremony. Below is a breakdown of how things went down.

RATINGS

This year's ceremony drew in a rating of 50.22 million viewers. While these are certainly high numbers and stand as the highest this year, second only to the Superbowl, they are down significantly from last year's inaugrual ceremony rating of 69.69 million viewers. I blame the blog's blackout the past year. This led to a lack of promotion when compared to last year. Another culprit was that pretty much all the shows are down this year thanks to the writer's strike. This would of course affect award shows to a greater degree. Nonetheless, the show was greeted with critical acclaim across the board and considered a vast improvement over last year's rushed and disjointed ceremony.

MUSIC

This was the show's most anticipated and difficult category where some obvious choices won and others shocked. Britney Spears was clearly the big winner. She broke the record for most wins, previously held by Justin Timberlake with four. Britney took home 5 Bi Awards for Best Female Artist, Best Album, Best Pop Song, Best Dance Song, and Hottest Celebrity Scandal. She also celebrated our 2,000th post milestone with a wet and wild performance of "...Baby One More Time." Right at Britney's heels was Rihanna with 3 Bi Awards for Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Hip-Hop/R&B Song. Carrie Underwood and Maroon 5 also took home 2 each. The shocker of the night though was when The Spice Girls won best group over frontrunners Maroon 5. They clearly won for sentimental reasons but deserved it anyway. Here is the bearkdown of the winners:

Britney Spears (5): Best Female Artist, Best Album, Best Pop Song, Best Dance Song, and Hottest Celebrity Scandal
Rihanna (3): Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Hip-Hop/R&B Song
Carrie Underwood (2): Best Ballad and Best Performance
Maroon 5 (2): Best Rock Song and Best Video
Jordin Sparks (1): Best New Artist
The Spice Girls (1): Best Group
Timbaland (1): Best Male Artist

TELEVISION

This category was easier than the others and three clear winners emerged. Ugly Betty and newcomer Gossip Girl led the pack pactically sweeping most of their categories. Ugly Betty and America Ferrera dominated their categories for the second consecutive year. Make Me A Supermodel was another newcomer that made a splash. There were few surprises. The only major one was in the Best Actor - Drama race, where favorite Penn Badgely, Gossip Girl, lost to Matthew Fox from Lost.

Ugly Betty (4): Best Comedy, Best Actress - Comedy (America Ferrera), Best Supporting Actor - Comedy, Best Supporting Actress - Comedy
Gossip Girl (4): Best Drama, Best Actress - Drama (Blake Lively), Best Supporting Actor - Drama (Chace Crawford), Best Supporting Actress - Drama (Leighton Meester)
Make Me A Supermodel (2): Best Reality Series and Best Reality Series Performance (Perry and Casey)
American Idol (1): Best Reality Series Host (Ryan Seacrest)
How I Met Your Mother (1): Best Actor - Comedy (Neil Patrick Harris)
Lost (1): Best Actor - Drama (Matthew Fox)
Family Guy (1): Best Animated Series

MOVIES

This category was more diverse than the others as no one movie clearly dominated the awards. No real surprises here!

300 (3): Best Action Movie, Best Actor - Action (Gerard Butler), Best Supporting Actor - Action (Dominic West)
Juno (3): Best Comedy Movie, Best Actress - Comedy (Ellen Page), Best Supporting Actress - Comedy (Jennifer Garner)
El Cantante (1): Best Actress - Drama (Jennifer Lopez)
Rendition (1): Best Actor - Drama (Jake Gyllenhaal)
The Bourne Ultimatum (1): Best Drama Movie
The Simpsons Movie (1): Best Actor - Comedy (Homer Simpson)
Transformers (1): Best Actress - Action (Megan Fox)

THE HOTTEST

This category is fairly simple. Jake Gyllenhaal got his second win of the ceremony, as did Jennifer Lopez.

Jake Gyllenhaal - Hottest Male
Eva Longoria - Hottest Female
Jennifer Lopez - Hottest New Mom
David Beckham - Hottest Athlete
Britney Spears - Hottest Celebrity Scandal

Well everyone, that's it. The Bi Awards are done for the year! It was really fun planning it all and I think it was so worth it. Congratulations to all the winners. See you next May for the 3rd Annual Bi Awards!
