Well as you all know, the 1st Annual Bi Awards took place on Friday, May 18th. They were a huge success, luring in 69.69 million viewers! I am so happy that they were such a huge success and I can't wait for next year! As with any awards show, there were a few upsetss In the Movie category, X-Men: The Last Stand made a huge showing, taking home 3 awards, including Best Picture, Actor and Actress, beating out several critical darlings. The biggest upset ocurred in Best Actress in a Drama, where it was expected Helen Mirren would win for The Queen. The audience was shocked when Famke Janssen won for her work as the Phoenix/Jean Grey in X-Men: The Last Stand . Another shocker was Eddie Murphy taking home two trophies for Norbit and Dreamgirls.
The Television category was a little less shocking. Ugly Betty took home a total of four awards, tying with Justin Timberlake with the most of any show/movie/person. The series swept most of the acting categories except Drama, of course, and Supporting Actress. One small shock was Kristen Bell winning for Veronica Mars, over favorites Sally Field and Ellen Pompeo. Industry insiders are saying this is due to the fact that the show was recently cancelled and this may have been the last bid to save it. Heroes also did well, scoring two wins for Best Drama and Best Actor for Milo Ventimiglia.
The Music category was also less shocking. Justin Timberlake practically swept it all, winning for Best Album, Male Artist, Video, and Performance. Nelly Furtado also took home two trophies for Best Female Artist and song. The talk all over Hollywood was her show-closing performance of "All Good Things." She sounded incredible and everyone was talking about it the next day. Justin also performed his hit "What Goes Around...Comes Around" to open the show. Another much talked about performer was Jennifer Lopez, who performed twice having to fill in for drop out Madonna. Her dedication to the troops was very heartwarming. She was applauded for singing live.
Overall the show was a huge success. Here are a just a few reviews:
Entertainment Weekly: "This show has surpassed the Oscars, Emmys, and Grammys in prestige and showmanship. All these shows could stand to learn a few things from the Bis. The tarnsitions between performances and awards was seemless with no technical difficulties. The Bi Awards are the new It Awards show."
Men's Health: "The Bi Awards have set a new standard for all awards shows. It was entertaining, funny, interesting, and just plain fun. We look forward to next year!"
Variety: "An amazing achievement for an awards show. The performances were amazing and everyone was at the top of their game. Jay should be proud of his work."
Billboard: "It was crazy, irreverant, too long, amazing performances, and the hottest celebs, all the winning ingredients for an excellent show."
Well that was just a taste of the glowing reviews. I am extremely proud and you all have given me great reviews so far. I really can't wait for next year.
