No not literally, as it sometimes seems during the live shows. The "American Idol" judge broke her nose and incurred other bodily injuries when she tripped, trying to avoid her chihuahua Tulip on Saturday, May 19, reports "Extra."
"[I] tore cartilage. I took a nasty fall ... trying not to hurt my dog," Abdul tells the entertainment newsmagazine. "I bruised myself on my arm. That's nothing ... my chest, my waist all the way down to my hip. All from my little chubby Tulip.
"The dog, I saw her... I just remember saying, 'Oh my God, I'm going to do a face plant,'" she continues. "It hurt so bad. I screamed like a little baby would scream. I fractured my toe as well."
Her rep David Brokaw confirmed to People his client's state: "She is in pain. No question about that. But she's standing 10 feet from me and you'd never know anything happened to her. There are no bandages. She's got some bruises on her arms and on one of her legs." With all that pain, fans will be interested to see if she'll be taking drugs to alleviate the pain.
"I have no knowledge of her taking anything," Brokaw says. "But she's very alert and clear-headed and having fun."
Abdul won't let her injury get in the way of her judging duties for the "Idol" performance show tonight when Jordin Sparks faces off against Blake Lewis and the finale the following night.
But enough about "Idol." How is Tulip doing?
"Tulip is fine. For dogs, every day is Saturday," says Brokaw.
