Betty's Best
Last night's Ugly Betty was the best episode of the new series so far. It had comedy and drama all in one great package. Part of the comedy involved Betty's Queens makeover that included big hair, the pleather jacket with its sparkle trim, and the talon-like nail extensions. It was fun watching her walk down the street so confident and it was funny when the construction workers whistled at her and she thanked them for it. Of course thought, the Queens makeover was still not enought to satisfy the fashionistas at Mode, who mocked poor Betty. This lead to Wilhemina embarrasing Betty during a staff meeting, alluding to how she made something that wasn't good to begin with even worse. It was heartbreaking watching Betty clean her makeup off with her own tears as she told Daniel that she wasn't enough to go to the meeting they had with the photographer they wanted. I really felt for her as she was truly broken by what they said to her. America Ferrera is doing an excellen job with Betty's portrayal.
Moving on to Justin, Betty's nephew, is he supposed to be gay or not? I'm not one to fall for steroetypes but I just don't know. On another note, I was surprised to see that the wicked Wilhemina has daddy issues after seeing her bend over backwards for her visiting, Senator father. I even felt bad for her after he asked if she was still only creative director. Her face said it all. Her assistant Marc has to be the funniest character after watching him snap Betty's picture after her makeover and announcing it as his new screensaver. The show's mystery involving Fey and Daniel's father also moved along. However, I would care about it more if maybe our heroine somehow got involved too. Otherwise, it drags the fun down a bit. Speaking of Daniel, he looks better and better each week.
