Lost Explores Sun's Dark Side
I thought that last night's episode of Lost awesome. It gave us a deeper look at Sun and focused a lot on the Others. I really want to know what they are doing. Did they really go through all that to capture Sawyer and Kate just to make them work on a construction site? And why are they keeping Jack alone and away from them? We got to see Rousseau's daughter Alex again. She was hiding in the bushes and asking Kate about Carl (the guy that tried to escape with Sawyer last week). We also saw Ben's voyeur techniques in the Hydra, he watches the whole Others camp along with Jack, Kate and Sawyer.
This episode, ''The Glass Ballerina,'' belonged to Sun and her flashbacks. As a privileged little girl, we find that she had no problem telling big lies. She blamed the housekeeper for breaking the Glass Ballerina figurine even after her father warned her the maid would be fired as a result. I found that ballerina symbol to be a sad representation of Sun's life. She is beautiful, but manipulated to be in a perfect stance forever by outside sources. She is destined to be forever just a pretty object that can only be changed when it is shattered.
The big Sun revelation is her baby daddy's identity. We know that Jin (unbeknownst to him) was the sterile one in the marriage, and now, a new flashback of Sun in bed with Jae Lee leads us to conclude her baby is Jae's. Sun's father found her in her lover's bed and leaves to settle the matter in his own manipulative, murderous way. He told Jin that Jae stole from him and ruined their family's honor. Therefore, he had to be killed. Jin did go to his hotel room (Room 1516 of course) with the intention to kill him but did not in the end and told him to leave the country. When he gets in his car, Jae's body falls on the hood of Jin's car. We are left to wonder a few things? Did Jae jump on his own? Did Sun go in after Jin and trigger the suicide by rejecting Jae, whose dead hand was clutching the pearls he had bought for Sun? Does Sun blame Jin for Jae's death?
Aboard Desmond's sailboat, Sun's growing self-confidence resulted in violence when she was confronted by the Other named Colleen. She suprised Sun by calling her by her full name and claiming that''We are not the enemy.'' Sun, unconvinced, shot her. She did manage to get away and met up with Jin in the water. On the Sawyer/Kate side, they were forced to do manual labor by an Other named Danny. They were not allowed to speak to or touch each other. Sawyer broke the rule by grabbing Kate and giving her a passionate kiss, leading to his getting stunned.
The best part came at the end. Ben formally introduced himself to Jack as Benjamin Linus, stating that he had been on the island his entire life! He also said to have contact with the outside world. It was funny to see Jack's reaction when Ben told him that the Red Sox won the World Series. Jack laughed and thought that was impossible. He was proven wrong when Ben showed him a tape of the winning game. Finally, Ben made a promise: ''You cooperate with us, and I will take you home.''
Next week looks really good because we finally get to see the original castaways and find out what happened after the hatch exploded.
