Nip/Tuck Shocks Again

Just when you think that Nip/Tuck could not shock you anymore, they proved that wrong last night. They didn't use transsexuals, women in love with their dogs, guys with no penises, scientology, serial killers, or anything like that. Instead, they did...absolutely nothing at all. For the first in ever, Nip/Tuck gave us a normal, yet still engaging episode. Their was nothing outright schocking, neither gross nor sexual. I really do enjoy the show for its outright looniness and crazy twists. However, last night was a welcome rest from all the craziness that usually rules the show but they did give us a few shocks.

Hedda Grubman returned for one last episode with her new nurse, played by Mo'Nique. She had the funniest lines last night and filled the missing Dawn void. Hedda asked Christian for more plastic surgery, however this time her situation was different. It turns out she had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and wanted to leave a beautiful corpse. Although Christian refused to operate on her, it was revealed that she actually felt quite strongly for him. He was one of the few people who accepted her despite her superficiality. In fact, she chose Christian to say the eulogy at her funeral, which turned out to be very poorly attended. I think that this story line humanized Christian, something that was sorely needed after his horrible treatment of Kimber last week. I found the ending to be touching as Christian operated on her now dead body and fantasized that she was singing. It also turns out the Hedda left most of her fortune to Christian because she really did love him.

Meanwhile, we were offered a look into an undiscovered part of Sean's past which offered insight into why he's so intent on performing surgery on Conor. It turns out that Sean was born with a cleft palate, which led to much taunting and teasing from the other kids. His Dad was so scared about how people would treat him that he forbade his son to play Little League. His Mom spent his college fund on the surgery to repair Sean's lip, behind her husband's back. He could never forgive her so he abandoned them. This storyline was a lot like Christian's storyline. It gave Sean back some humanity after how horrible he had been acting lately and made his actions understandable. After telling the truth to a skeptical Julia, the episode ended with Conor having the surgery and with me on the edge of my seat. I kept thinking that something awful was going to happen, but shockingly, this episode had a happy ending.

The most shocking moment of the evening was when Julia kissed Marlo! I definately did not see that coming. I know she told Sean that she would never forgive him if he cheated on her so it surprised me she did. Granted, Sean has cheated on her, but she doesn't know that. I am now very interested to see what happens with this story line and if it offer a reason for Joely Richardson's absence for a few episodes because it's rumored that she's going to be taking a little breather from Nip/Tuck. Also, isn't it kind of funny that both Sean and Julia cheated on each other with their nannies?

Next week it looks like Marlo and Julia keep the romance going. We also get to see Michelle again and it seems like Christian may lose a kidney. Hopefully Dawn also comes back and Brooke Shields too. Not to mention Kimber.
